Indianapolis Senior Photography - Outdoor Locations You Will Fall In Love With
You're Graduating High School
Graduating from high school is one of the biggest milestones of your lifetime!
Commemorating this accomplishment and celebrating how far you’ve come is beyond important, and we understand that you want these photos to symbolize who you are for years to come.
Senior portraits are a fantastic way to honor your hard work.
They memorialize your senior year, honoring how much you’ve done, and they welcome you to a new era where you'll need strange things like headshots and resumes. A new beginning.
For students in the Indianapolis, Indiana area; these locations are perfect for senior pictures.
Looking for something truly unique?
Let me know, I've got some favorite spots I am confident you haven't seen before.
Some of these locations do require permits and have small fees, if you are looking for something different we have a ton of non permit options we love to shoot as well.
So without further ado, we present the best locations for senior photography in 2022.
Coxhall Gardens
The Coxhall Gardens are a public access space owned by Hamilton County, Indiana Department of Parks and Recreation.
For a fun, flowers, and sunshine vibe, the Coxhall Gardens in Carmel are a great location. This park features 125 acres of rolling green grass and flowers, as well as several photo-worthy spots (such as gazebos, statues, bell towers, and even a lake).
With vibrant flowers dotting the entire place, your portraits will have a cheerful, happy, and colorful background,
This site is, without a doubt, the perfect spot for seniors who want a happy, bright, and natural feel for their portraits.
We also love the architectural properties of their amphitheater.
2022 there are some permit fees but nothing that will break a bank!
Newfields
Newfields is heaven, tucked away in the heart of Indianapolis. My wife and I have season passes we love it so much.
This perennial, refined park features several gardens, each of which provides a perfect backdrop for senior pictures. The Formal Gardens, Ravine Garden, Orchard, Four Seasons Garden, Rain Garden, and Border Gardens are just a few of the many locations this site has to offer.
Eagle Creek Park
Indianapolis’s beautiful Eagle Creek Park spans an awe inspiring 3,900 acres of woodlands, meadows, and ponds. This slice of nature provides a retreat from the bustling energy of the city, as well as being a perfect backdrop for a senior photoshoot.
The reservoir within the park grounds also provides a beautiful riverside backdrop. This quiet setting will bring an earthy, nature-loving vibe to your senior pictures.
Whether it’s along the winding riverbank, the shaded woods with beautiful dappled light, or in the center of a tranquil meadow... This location has the perfect mix of backgrounds to capture you among the wilderness.
Highly recommend visiting their sanctuary as well after the session!
Fountain Square
In the heart of bustling downtown Indy is Fountain Square, an iconic and artistic gem. When you think of your dream senior pictures, do you envision bright city lights, a busy city, and vintage/indie art?
Taking your senior shots beside the central fountain will place you in the heart of a vintage downtown scene like magic. Or, for a more glamorous, old Hollywood vibe, let's visit the Fountain Square Theater and shoot under the theater lights.
The neon signs will add a boost of color and energy to your portraits that's hard to get anywhere else.
Indiana War Memorial
The Indiana War Memorial captures the essence of great architecture. Built in 1924, this monument combines the art deco style of the 20th century with neoclassical design elements to create what I can only describe as breath taking beauty.
I had the honor of photographing a retirement ceremony for a general and the inside is incredible as well.
This memorial makes a perfect photoshoot setting. The strong, masculine building as a backdrop frames subjects perfectly, and its just beautiful to look at.
Fort Harrison State Park
The Fort Harrison State Park area is absolutely filled with incredible locations! I normally shoot near the hotel and golf course. I have found that the spot provides all sorts of amazing backgrounds and structure for your images.
This includes the old hotel, gazebo, bridge and lake.
Hard to beat it!
The Monon Trail
The Monon Trail winds all through the city of Indianapolis and it isn't just for power walking with your friends.
From up north in the (misleadingly named) city of Westfield all the way downtown, you can find unique spots and settings for your photos.
No matter where you live there is probably a spot on the Monon close by!
The shade from the trees usually makes for amazing natural light photos as well!
Holiday Park
Holliday Park is one of Indianapolis’ oldest parks. Our favorite elder park still looks great though! Located on the northside near Broad Ripple.
This park is home to some very beautiful trails near White River along with the Holliday Park Ruins. Contrary to popular belief they aren't actually ruins, the real story is so much cooler!
Check it out..
In the 1950s, the St. Paul Building, at 220 Broadway in New York City, was torn down to make way for a modern skyscraper. Karl Bitter, one of the outstanding architectural sculptors of the late 19th century, had designed the facade of the original building, including three massive statues made of Indiana limestone called “the Races of Man.” To find a new home for the sculptures, the building’s owner, the Western Electric Company, held a competition among U.S. cities, which were required to submit plans for their display and preservation. Indianapolis proposed to place them in Holliday Park, which was then an arboretum, and the city was ultimately awarded the highly prized sculptures, valued at the time at $150,000.
Flowing Well Park
This park isn’t huge, but its very scenic. It’s located off of 116th in Carmel, IN.
If you like the sound of running water trickling gently through a rock filled bed, this is the perfect location for you. Cool Creek runs right though the middle of this park. There is also a bridge and lots of rustic and greenery looks in the different areas.
This location is great all year round as well!
I've got hundreds of locations
But unfortunately, I can't possibly list them all. So I will be making more blogs coming up with even more location ideas. Be sure to keep an eye out for the next round of locations for photoshoots.
